The colors you define in the app are called anchors. The slider bar at the top sets how many steps there are between the anchors. This ranges between 1-100. That's right, 100! (That's about 95 more colors than online gradient generators will let you use, especially when you exceed 3 or more anchor colors.) This tool lets you put as many anchors as you want, with up to 100 steps between each of them!

Why Is It Called the "Spite-Based PRO Edition"?

Spite-driven development is honestly one of the most powerful and productive forces in programming. Hitting an arbitrary paywall for a mathematically straightforward operation like color interpolation is incredibly frustrating, but it's also the perfect excuse to build a tool that does exactly what you need without the bloat.

I visited a website to make a gradient that I wanted to use in a picture. I specifically just wanted to generate gradients based on color theory, and be able to export them into .map (so I could use the gradients in JWildfire). The website had all the color theories locked behind SEPARATE paywalls! You want triadic? (that's 99 cents); you want split-complementary? (that's 99 cents); you want tetradic? (that's 99 cents)... you get the idea.

And then I went to export the file and it said that because I had 20+ colors in the gradient, I had to purchase the pro version or limit the gradient to 10 colors. And if I wanted to export to .map (for JWildfire) it said exporting to that file format was and additional $1.99!

This would have set me back about $10-11 for the pro subscription and .map file format. But this irked me, because I would have been charged an additional $5 or so for every new gradient I built there!

So I built a better gradient generator because I got sick of all the DLC restrictions on a color theory website.
